This data privacy, protection and cookie policy (“Privacy Notice”) describes your privacy rights regarding how Matrix and its affiliates (“Matrix”, “we”, “us”) collect, process, use, store, and share your personal data when you use our website, mobile application, and related services.
This Notice informs you about the personal data we collect from you, how we collect it, how we use it, and your rights when you use this Service. We handle personal data in our care in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act and other applicable data privacy laws.
We collect your personal data when you register, fund a wallet, verify your identity, or pay a bill on Matrix.
a. Personal Information
We collect name, telephone number, email address, physical address, date of birth, and other information needed for know-your-customer (KYC) or due diligence — including Bank Verification Number (BVN) when you choose to raise your daily limit. We may retain this information for a period guided by our retention policy, data protection law, and industry rules.
In addition to KYC, we may use this information to:
- Open and operate your wallet and virtual account.
- Verify meters, IUCs, and other customer identifiers with billers.
- Respond to your questions or requests.
- Prevent, detect, and manage fraud using internal and third-party screening tools.
- Meet statutory obligations and cooperate with regulators or law enforcement where required.
- Resolve disputes that may arise from a payment.
We may retrieve additional personal information about you from partners you deal with and identification or verification services.
b. Transaction Data
When you fund a wallet or pay a bill we collect amount, destination (meter, phone, IUC, exam product), biller reference, and status. This is collected on a necessity basis as required by law and the payment partners we use.
c. Other Information
Analytics — we analyse relationship and transactional information for security, fraud, and product improvement.
Information from your use of our website and app — IP address, device identifiers, settings, logs, and similar technical data, including cookies.
Government-issued identification numbers — we may request a government-issued ID or BVN to verify your identity, including through third-party services such as Flutterwave.

Matrix collects personal information only for identified purposes and for which consent has been obtained. Such personal information cannot be reused for another purpose that is incompatible with the original purpose, except consent is obtained for such purpose.
Matrix limits personal information collection and usage to data that is relevant, adequate, and necessary for carrying out the purpose for which the data is processed.
We will evaluate whether and to what extent processing is necessary and, where the purpose allows, anonymized data will be used.
Our website and services are not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from, or conduct business with, children under 18. If you become aware that your child or ward has provided us with information without your consent, contact us using the details in this Privacy Notice.
Matrix shall establish adequate controls to protect the integrity and confidentiality of personal information, in digital and physical formats, and to prevent it from being accidentally or deliberately compromised.
We protect your personal information using physical, technical, and administrative security measures, including encryption, access controls, and limiting access to employees who need it to do their jobs. PIN values are stored only as irreversible hashes. Payment PINs are verified on our servers; Face ID never leaves your device.
Employees may have access to personal information only as appropriate for the task in question and may not use it for private or commercial purposes or disclose it to unauthorised persons.
a. Third Party Processor within Nigeria
Matrix may engage third parties to process personal information (including billers, bank partners, and KYC providers). Processing by such third parties is governed by a written contract requiring adequate protection.
b. Transfer of Personal Information to Foreign Country
Some processors may be located outside Nigeria. When we share personal data with them we put in place appropriate safeguards in accordance with applicable data protection law.
Individuals who have personal information held by Matrix may exercise any of the rights listed below:
- Right to request and access their personal information collected and stored;
- Right to information on their personal information collected and stored;
- Right to object or request restriction;
- Right to object to automated decision making;
- Right to request rectification of personal information;
- Right to request deletion of your data;
- Right to request the movement of data from Matrix to a third party; and
- Right to object to, and to request that Matrix restricts, the processing of their information.
Such requests will be reviewed and carried out except as restricted by law or our statutory obligations. You may decline to provide personal information when requested; certain services may then be unavailable. You may review your account settings in the app or by contacting us.
